This is a handsome softcover book
written, and professionally published by Sandra Moats. It contains many pictures of old Morgans including some exclusive
pictures of Morgan horses sent to Japan in the early 1900's. This book unfolds valuable information on the Classic Old Line
Morgan Horse, specializing in the Sherman Morgan line.
This book includes articles about
Figure, his history, life and end. The background of the famous Black Hawk in the Sherman Morgan familiy. The famous Cavalry
Morgan horses including: individual Morgans in the troops, and the regiments they served in. There is a chapter on the
famous Black Horse Troop.
It includes the Classic Old lines of General Gates noted sire of
the US Cavalry Morgans at the Government Farm and his influence on those following him.
It
features Jubilee King who was sire of the great Saddle Morgan horses. This section contains pictures of him at various stages
of his life. A shortened version of this section was published in The Sidekick, Summer, 2003. Another section features the
China Morgan horses.
It contains interesting information and pictures about the lost Morgan
Horse herd sold to China in the 1940's, and the location of their decendants now. A shorten version with a few of the pictures
featured in this book was published in The Morgan Horse Magazine, July 2002.
Another
section covers Reflections of the Morgan Horses in Japan, it contains extensive information about the famous stallions Donyln
and Ajax who were sold to Japan along with the names of the mares in the early 1900's. Pictures and information clearly reflect
the influence of these famous Morgans on the modern day Japanese breed. Included in this book are copies of original pictures
of Ajax, Donaway and Bessie Baker while in Japan in the 1920's. A shorter version without these pictures was published in
The Morgan Horse Magazine, August, 2003.
There is a section on the
Australian Morgan horses. And another on the Mexico Morgan Horses, along with a Chicken Soup section for breeders.
